FAQ
Cornhole is played with two boards and eight bags. The goal is simple: toss your bags onto the board or into the hole to score points.
You get 3 points if the bag goes in the hole and 1 point if it lands on the board. After each round, only one team scores — the difference in points.
First to 21 points wins. Easy to learn, impossible to stop playing.
Official cornhole boards are built to 120 x 60 cm — that’s
the standard size used in every professional tournament.
The hole is 15 cm in diameter, centered 22,5 cm from
the top edge of the board.
When setting up your game, the front edges of the two boards
should be 8.23 meters (27 feet) apart for official play.
For a more casual setup (or when kids are playing), many move them closer —
around 6–7 meters still feels great and keeps the game fun for
everyone.
Not necessarily — it depends on which rules you play by.
In official cornhole rules, the first team to reach 21 points or more wins the game. So if you go slightly
over (say you jump from 19 to 23), it still counts as a win.
However, many people play with “exact 21” house rules, where going over
means you “bust” and drop back down to 15 points (or another agreed number). It adds a fun twist and a bit more
pressure when the score gets tight. At the end of the day, it’s your call — just agree on the rule before you start
tossing bags!
There’s no strict rule — but the most common (and fun) way is to spin a bag on the board.
When it stops, the side the seam
(stitching) points toward starts the game!
If you prefer something simpler, you can always go with rock-paper-scissors. The winner decides who throws first or which side to play from.
After that, it’s easy:
- The player or team that scored last round throws first in the next.
- If no one scored (a tie round), the same player keeps the first throw.
Throwing first can give you a small edge — but in cornhole, it’s never over until the last bag is thrown!
